Passport – Soccer Balls as Art

I first spotted Passport after a posting in our forum asked if there were any more videos of the Sunshine goal. I followed the link that the first time poster used on their profile and landed in a world of soccer balls which feature artwork from three different artists. The whole idea intrigued me, and I contacted Edgar D. Acevedo one of the artists and founders of the project. Edgar turned out to enthusiastic about me inquires and wanted to share our conversations with our readers.

Article by contributor Peter Neal
I work with a group of Englishmen. I asked those fellows why Clint Dempsey seems to burn so much brighter playing for Fulham rather than the United States. They responded simply: “Fulham is more talented.” While we there can be no dispute that Bobby Zamora, Dickson Etuhu and Jonathan Greening are fine players, I don’t think they are superior to the cast of the US National team. That type of contempt and lack of respect is just a sample of how the American National team is largely viewed. There seems to be a big brother/little brother relationship between the Three Lions and Uncle Sam’s Army. The meeting this Saturday will be an interesting depiction of the status of both countries.

England features international stars Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard. Coach Fabio Capello has installed a dogged approach of high pressure and efficiency in … Read the rest

Best result 3rd Place, 2009

Always the bridesmaid never the bride. Spain usually gets hyped before about every World Cup and here is 2010 and were talking about Spain as a favorite to win the Cup, or just big the choke artist. This is practically the same team that let the United States trounce them for the whole world to see, last summer in the Confederations Cup in South Africa. Did they learn their lesson?

Spain will be playing in Group H with Switzerland, Honduras and Chile. This grouping should make you optimistic that at least Spain will get out of the first round. Ok, great you made it out of group play, but now … Read the rest

South Korea

World Cup
Appearances 7 (First in 1954)

Best result Champions, 1956, 1960
Confederations Cup
Appearances 1 (First in 2001)
Best result 1st Round, 2001

This will be South Korea’s seventh consecutive qualification for the World Cup. In 2002 they shocked the world by placing fourth in the tournament. No one is giving the Koreans much of a chance, as they are playing in Group B with power house Argentina and teams that are very closely matched in terms of skills Greece and Nigeria. These teams all have very different styles and should make for some entertaining games. Group B is a must watch.
