This classic chant usually finds its way into the match somewhere, although it has been used a bit less often this year. To the tune of Winter Wonderland:

Over there (point to quiet section), it’s so quiet
Over here, it’s a riot
Walking along
Singing our* song
Walking in a Timbers Wonderland

*The chant sheet says “our song”, but most people sing “a song”.

Video (from Timbers vs. Ajax 4/25/2011):

This chant is on the Timbers Army Chant Sheet.

Know Your Chants – A Timbers Chant Guide.

We have been getting a lot of messages from people who would like to know more about the chants sung at Portland Timbers matches. So I figured we would put together a quick guide to the chants.

First off the latest Timbers Army Chant Sheet can be downloaded and printed out here.

If you don’t have a printer don’t worry you can always pick up the chant sheet at the Timbers match at Jeld Wen Field. Timbers Army volunteers run an informational table in the concourse of each match near the entrance to section 107. There you can ask questions and pick up a free chant sheet. The table is staffed by friendly volunteers before the match, at halftime and post match to help you.

The Timbers Army has a few pre-match traditions. During the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, the fans gently toss, or swing, their scarves into the air at pauses in the song, saying “whoosh”“chissssh” (sound of cymbals). As the song reaches the end, the scarves are swung in circles overhead, as the Timbers Army cheers and sings along. The final word of the song, “brave”, is replaced with a raucous yell of “Timbers”, followed by cheers. Then the Timbers Army launches into its first chant of the match: “Hey Portland Timbers”. It’s another simple one- hold your hands in the air, sing the heyyyyy part a bit longer, then follow it with five claps.

Heyyyyyy, Port-land Timbers…. clap clap clap clap clap

Oh- and guess who will be leading the Star Spangled Banner for the Timbers MLS home opener? The Timbers Army. Get used to the tradition!

Here’s another simple chant that gets used every match. If you are ever told to “sing us a song” have this one in your pocket because all you have to remember are the four letters, PTFC (Portland Timbers Football Club).

We are working on getting mp3 files for every chant. When the Timbers get added to FIFA ’12 you will be able to add them as crowd chants. This file comes from the Merlo playoff match, so we’ll try to get it replaced with a louder one from PGE Park.… Read the rest

Know Your Chants: Cleats Up Timbers

Continuing our Know Your Chants series, we are going to be posting up MP3 files of a bunch of the Timbers Army Chants. Chants that we have already done a post on will have an MP3 added to them. By the way Fifa 11 allows you to add .mp3 chants to the game, so these could be useful next year when the Timbers are included in the game.

Along with Onward Rose City and The Tetris Chant, this is another new chant that has really caught on this season:

Bury me in Timbers Green
Whoah-oh-oh whoah-oh-oh
Bury me in Timbers Gold
Ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah
Bury me in Timbers Green
Whoah-oh-oh whoah-oh-oh
Bury me in Timbers Gold
Ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah
And when I go,   And when I go,
And when I go make sure I’m wearing green and gold
And when I go,   And when I go,
And when I go make sure I’m wearing green and gold

It’s not yet on the Timbers Army Chant Sheet, but most of the other chants are.

Update:

Here’s the chant from 2011:

First it was a Russian folk song.

Then it was the Type A music for Tetris on the Game Boy.

Now it’s a Timbers Army chant.

(does anyone else think the best part of this video is the guy in the straw hat at 10.5 seconds?)

Do, Do Do Do, Do Do Do, Do Do Do, Do Do Do, Do Do Deet Do Do (Hey!)
Do, Do Do, Do Do Do, Do Do, Do Do Do Deet Do Do Do (Hey!)
Portland Timbers we a-dore you
Portland Timbers for you we sing

It’s not yet on the Timbers Army Chant Sheet, but most of the other chants are.

First get pissed watching how close the Timbers came to scoring a goal last night.  Then listen to a great chant.  This one must sound impressive from the field.

Chants come and go, some evolve, some multiply, and some are ingrained into the team and its supporters. Below is a chant that should grow and cover the entire stadium, and infect the Rose City like some strange virus. The awesome video below was posted on the soccer city boards and gives you an idea about the tempo and rhythm.

Ohhhh, Rose City!
Soccer City
Score a goooooal
Whenever you are playing we will always follow you.
We are the Timbers Army and forever we’ll be true.
(repeat 100x)
