Lebron isn’t the only Ohio pro athlete who’s saying goodbye to their hometown team this year. If you haven’t heard, Eric Brunner is bringing his talents to the Rose City.
Brunner is a a 6’4 defender who grew up in Dublin, Ohio, and also played his college soccer at Ohio State. After spending his freshman year at the University of Maryland, Brunner became a Buckeye and would go on to be a 1st team All-Big Ten selection his junior and senior seasons, as well as a 1st team All-American his senior. Over his college career, Brunner played in 89 matches and scored ten goals.

Peter Lowry is a 25 year old attacking midfielder from the Chicago Fire. A Santa Clara grad who ranks 7th all time for goals scored at 22. He won a boat load of awards in his four years with the Broncos. Lowry’s MLS career started with the Fire in 2008 and made 25 appearances for the Fire scoring 5 goals in that time.

John Spencer looked to a fellow Scot, when he picked up Adam John William Moffat in the expansion draft. A member of the Crew since 2007, he has played in 44 matches and started in 36 of those. In his tenure with the Crew he scored five goals, recorded one assist and was considered instrumental in helping the Crew win two Supporters Shields and the 2008 MLS Cup.

Kevin “Goldie” Goldthwaite is a 27 year old defender from the NY Red Bulls. Along with Dike he was standout player for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He was selected 17th overall in the 2005 MLS Super Draft by the San Jose Earthquakes. He was loaned to the Timbers during the 2005 campaign, in which he made 10 appearances and logged 892 minutes. He bounced around the MLS ending up in New York, making 52 appearances from 2007 to 2010. In 2008 he helped NY to the playoffs and earned the defender of year award from the club. He was waived by the Red Bulls earlier this month to make room for Rafael Márquez.
He is expected to be fit to play in two weeks according to the press release.
