Welcome to the 2010 Dropping Timber Awards- The DT’s for short. The fan votes are in, the Dropping Timber team has voted, but don’ go scrolling down the page without reading about the format: The fan votes get one vote, and each member of the Dropping Timber team gets a vote. I get to break ties since I’m writing the post. If you have an issue with that you can create your own not-very-important web awards blog post. In the case of the Goal of the Year we didn’t take a fan vote, but we did have a post with open comments about it.

First Award: Defender of the Year

Make sure to keep checking in with us this “off-season” (heck, we all know that this off-season is going to be the most exciting one ever).

Among the things we have planned:

• DT Awards – We’ll have the fan votes and also our own picks on who were the most impressive Timbers this year
• Timbers Yearbook – A collaboration with SCUSA, stay tuned for more info, this will be cool.
• A new and improved match rater- we are going to take the player match rater league wide, and it will be much slicker.
• SuperDraft Party – we want to get people together to watch the SuperDraft, details to come
• Timbers off-season news and rumors- of course. Our goal is to be your go-to source for the latest info.

We have a new fantasy leader,  harmsway01, who correctly predicted how many goals the Timbers would score in the first and third Cascadia Cup matches.  He also has Mamadou Danso as his starting defender, one of only three Portland defenders to score thus far.

Well the first half of the season is finished and the fantasy contest has one person at the very top. Chrisbers is the mid-season winner, he picked Mandjou Keita (2pts), Ryan Pore (20pts) and Josh Cameron (2pts), and picked up the first Cascadia bonus, for a total score of 27pts. Chrisbers has won a Greatest Goals of the Premier League DVD, courtesy of the people at soccerpro.com.

The fantasy rankings have been updated, and we finally have an undisputed leader, Chrisbers, who happened to have Josh Cameron at defender.  We are coming up on the middle of the season and the 5 point mid-season bonus. Unfortunately, with the low number of wins, only 47th ranked Spacewalk Creative and Timbers U-28 (#58) are within reach of getting the bonus.
