Doug Binder of mlssoccer.com examines our pitch.

Wilkinson said complaints about field dimensions seem like excuses. He also pointed out that every team tries to cull advantages from its home field. Is heat an advantage for players acclimatized to it in Houston? Does living at altitude give Colorado players an advantage?

“There is a reason Colorado has one of the biggest field sizes and they are at altitude,” Wilkinson said. “It’s not an excuse, not a reason to go there and lose, it’s just a topic for discussion. Whether the grass is a little longer or the field is a little bigger, you always want to win your home games and want your field to play to your advantage. Paul Danzer from The Columbian examines the Timbers offside issues.

The Portland Timbers have been flagged for being offside 41 times through 11 games, the second most in Major League Soccer. In Sunday’s home-field loss to D.C. In an unprecedented decision, United Soccer Leagues has chosen, with the agreement of both the Kitsap Pumas and Portland Timbers U23s, to allow for an upcoming Premier Development League regular season match Friday, June 3 at 11:00 am Pacific to double as a tiebreaker between the two clubs.

While head-to-head qualifying finales have determined US Open Cup berths in the four-match PDL qualifying system previously, there has never been a fifth match to determine an entrant from a qualifying group. The two clubs finished qualifying over the holiday weekend with identical 3-0-1 records and were also level on the applicable tiebreakers.

A post on mlssoccer.com reviews some of the comments made by some of the teams who have visited Jeld Wen.

Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando tweeted about it after a 1-0 loss at JELD-WEN Field on April 30: “…big props Portland’s fans, thanks for the great atmosphere.”

RSL coach Jason Kreis went further.

“It’s fantastic,” he said. “Portland should be proud of themselves and the players should be thrilled that they get to play in this environment every week.”
