Mamadou “Futty” Danso headed in the game winner and Troy Perkins called him one of the best “unknowns” in the league. The stats agree, if you haven’t seen these yet, check out the in-depth match stats from PowerStats. They’ve been tracking the Timbers for the last three league games and rate Danso as the best player on the team, by quite a margin:
We caught some video of Futty’s game winner from up in 205. The Timbers are now tied for 2nd in the West and 3rd overall in the MLS Standings. They are a point ahead of the rival Sounders with a game in hand.
John Spencer was moved by the crowd, and even grabbed a flag after the match to join in the celebration (via the official site):
“I don’t want to give the wrong impression when I say the fans don’t win games,” Spencer said

With three matches in the span of six days a week, the Timbers decided to play a team of mostly reserves (with only Troy Perkins having started in the previous match) against lowly San Jose (1-4-2 in league play). After 120 minutes of scoreless soccer, San Jose found a way to score off a header, becoming the first team to come away from Jeld Wen Field with a victory:
When it appeared the defensive tug-of-war battle was headed to penalty kicks, Opara came through for San Jose. Midfielder Sam Cronin, who had collected a cleared corner kick, crossed the ball into the box, where Opara flicked it past Perkins for the winner.

It was cold sunny afternoon in Toronto as the Timbers lost their second match of the season. Javier Martina was the man of the match as he scored both goals for Toronto FC. The first goal came in the 14th minute after the Timbers defense failed to breakup the Toronto attack. Dwayne De Rosario broke into the box and gave a great pass to a poorly marked Martina who was able to beat Adin Brown.
