Timbers Ready for Road Test Against Galaxy

The Portland Timbers are coming off two big wins that catapulted the club from 8th to 4th in the Western Conference standings. The team hopes to take that momentum into the City of Angels, as they face off against the star-studded LA Galaxy. It will be tough task as they face LA, who will be happy to be home after a three game road trip that kept them from LA for twelve straight days.

The Galaxy are 3-1-3 and are in second place in the west after squeaking by Chicago 2-1 on Sunday while missing key players. Landon Donovan is back after he skipped the 3 game road trip due to knee inflammation, and all signs at this point is that he will be ready to start against the Timbers. LA’s leading assistant man David Beckham will be back after serving a one game suspension for accumulated yellows (five in… Read the rest

Game Preview: Who’s Gonna Run this Town Tonight?

The 10th of October 2010 only happens once and the Timbers will need to put on one the best performances in Timber history in order to keep their season alive. Less than 15 minutes into the 2010 playoffs we were down 2 goals, urgency and desperation led to a miserable match in Burnaby Thursday night. The first match is over and now it’s all about Merlo. In front of the faithful the defense will have to hold the line, while the offense pours quality shots against that stubborn SOB Nolly.

The Portland Timbers (11-7-8, 41pts) will finish their final four games of the regular season on the road as they head south to take on the Carolina Railhawks (10-8-7, 37pts) this Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Timber’s have experienced a few ups and downs this season, but have rallied in recent weeks and are now riding a 6 game unbeaten streak, including only 2 losses in their last 12 matches. Portland is tied for 3rd overall in the USSF standings, clinching a playoff spot earlier this week, but remains in 3rd place in the USL conference, trailing 2nd place Rochester by 7 points. The Railhawks have made a small push in standing as well. Currently, 5th place in the overall league table and 2nd in the NASL conference, Carolina has crept within 4 points of Portland, placing added importance on… Read the rest

Crystal Palace Baltimore
(6-12-6, 24pts)

6pm @ PGE Park

A team at the bottom of the league standings is coming to PGE Park to play the Timbers. For most, playing a non-playoff team would be a welcome advantage, but this isn’t exactly the case for this year’s Timbers squad.

Against the bottom three teams in the league Portland (9-7-8, 35pts) has an unmoving record of 3-3-1, including a record of 1-1-1 at home versus those same cellar dwelling clubs. Oddly enough the Timbers are 3-1-3 against the top 3 teams in the league – the bad habit of playing down to their competition level… Read the rest

Radio on 95.5 the Game

The sun’s been shining on Portland lately. The Timbers (9-7-7, 34pts) are riding a 2-game road win streak, further strengthening their 4th place position in the overall league standings, and are now facing a 3 game home stand, starting with the Austin Aztex on Thursday. Things are starting to get rosy in the Rose City and with 7 games remaining in the regular season the timing couldn’t be better. Portland is unbeaten in their last 3 matches and their defense has recorded back-to-back shutouts for only the 2nd time this year. Could the Timbers possibly string together their first 3 game win streak of the season?

The Aztex (13-3-5, 44pts) will be… Read the rest
