Boyd’s Debut, as Reported in Scotland

“It was a terrible night with terrible rain, but that didn’t dampen the fans. The game went well and it’s a night that I’ll genuinely remember forever

Treemendous from The Scottish Sun, is a great read.  I hadn’t even thought about the irony of Kris Boyd huddling in his Timbers green (he’d already mentioned getting used to the color) with the Timbers before a match.

Boyd’s knees-to-his-chest celebration was like Charlie Nicholas for Scotland against Switzerland in 1983.

He grinned: “I have always joked with with my mates back in Tarbolton about my celebrations when I score.

“For years they’ve been winding me up about it.

“Down the years I’ve done various things so I don’t know what I was thinking when the ball hit the back of the net. It was just a natural reaction. Was it like Charlie Nicholas? I didn’t even think about that.”

I took a look at the video from Charlie Nicholas goal celebration (4:23 below) against Switzerland, and what Boyd did actually looks closer to Nicholas’ goal vs. the Rangers at 2:43.  What do you think?

Certainly looks like a Charlie Nicholas celebration. A golden period for Scottish football, some all time greats in that clip.
