Timbers and American Red Cross team to help Japan
The Portland Timbers and American Red Cross are partnering to help out survivors of Japan’s devastating earthquake earlier this month. Sorry, if you’re sick of of Japan coverage, if so, then stop being such a cold-hearted bastard. Assistance funds will be raised through portions of tickets and other sales, for further details….
In support of aid efforts following the recent earthquake in Japan, the Timbers and American Red Cross have teamed up to play host to an awareness night on Sunday, April 17, at JELD-WEN Field as the Timbers take on FC Dallas; kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
The Timbers and American Red Cross are offering a special ticket for the April 17 match, with proceeds benefiting the Red Cross’ efforts to aid the earthquakes victims in Japan. Priced at $37, the ticket includes complimentary food and beverages, courtesy of Centerplate, during an exclusive reception on the Widmer Brothers Southern Front, the new deck behind the south goal.
The Timbers play Major League Soccer opponent Chivas USA in a qualifying match for the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on March 29. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Limited tickets remain and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.
Additionally, for both the March 29 match against Chivas USA and the April 17 contest against FC Dallas, a portion of the proceeds from the Timbers’ Stand Together auction table will be donated toward relief efforts.

And a quick reminder to go vote for the final photos in the “We Are Timbers” billboard contest….
Of the hundreds of “We Are Timbers” photos taken of Timbers fans at the Portland Timbers Downtown Team Store in recent weeks, the field has been narrowed down to 100 photos, which will be voted on by fans to be in the final “We Are Timbers” billboard.
Fans are able to vote for their favorite “no pity” pose on the club’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/portlandtimbers. The four photos with the most “likes” or votes will be included on a billboard located near JELD-WEN Field at NW 17th Ave and W Burnside St. Voting ends Wednesday at 5 p.m. and the four winners will be announced. Visit the Timbers’ Facebook page to view all 100 entries.
