The MLS playoffs kicked off last night with the Crew losing 1-nil at Colorado. Two matches Saturday as Real Salt Lake travels to FC Dallas for a 2:00pm kickoff (ESPN 2) and NY heads to the west coast to play San Jose at 7:00pm (FSC). We can get behind the Galaxy as they face the Flounders on Sunday at 5pm (ESPN 2).
The USL and NASL Saga – Timbers leave issues behind, but situation affects MLS long term
Kip Kesgard, community blogger over at the Oregon Live writes a piece about the sad state of affairs in Division 2 soccer in this country.
The Portland Timbers can look positively towards their future with Major League Soccer, especially after the first player signings were completed on October 19. The prospect for the remaining teams that play in the USSF Division 2, however, seems as stable as Oregon soil after a fall drenching. With recent news about franchise changes and a pending sanctioning battle between leagues, lower division American soccer seems destined for more uncertainty.

Spencer has already loaded three attacking minded players into his squad and there is a possibility that he may feel the greater need is further back, perhaps in defensive or central midfield. He and Gavin Wilkinson left the States last week to scour Europe and South America for talent. Secondly, the needs of an expansion club may not directly equate to those of an established side like the Dynamo. An international class centre half would slot nicely around either the experienced Kevin Goldthwaite or the highly rated 27-year-old Gambian international Mamadou Danso.
