The MLS playoffs kicked off last night with the Crew losing 1-nil at Colorado. Two matches today as Real Salt Lake travels to FC Dallas for a 2:00pm kickoff (ESPN 2) and NY heads to the west coast to play San Jose at 7:00pm (FSC). We can get behind the Galaxy as they face the Flounders on Saturday at 5pm (ESPN 2).

Mao at the Offsides takes a look into Nimo’s situation.
Due to his status as a Generation adidas player, Nimo is automatically protected by Salt Lake and cannot appear on the list of available players to the Timbers (and Vancouver Whitecaps) in the upcoming Expansion Draft. Portland will be forced to make a trade of some kind with the MLS Cup holders if they want to secure the services of the 20-year old Nimo.

The Timbers may be headed to the desert to do some preseason training next year. Soccer By Ives reports that there are plans for the Timbers, flounders, whitecraps, taurine toros and real salty to head to Casa Grande, Arizona next year for training. The teams will not all be there at the same time. Arizona has proved a popular place for MLS teams to get some training in the past. So boys hide your accents and keep your green card on you at all times.

SIDE KICKS: Barber met with Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers and MLS officials in Seattle recently to discuss how many tickets will be set aside for visiting fans to Vancouver-Portland-Seattle games … The teams say the issue will be resolved by next month and Barber expects more than 150 tickets will be set aside for visiting fans.

The legend still doing his thing
Former Portland Timbers star Byron Alvarez is back in the Major Indoor Soccer League, with a new team. The Missouri Comets signed the veteran forward on Monday to a two-year contract.
